Mommy Musings

Here's a few things for all of you mommas out there to ponder.

Isn't it funny how you long for just 5 minutes of quiet in your house, but when it actually is quiet you go in search of the kids because you know they're doing something they shouldn't be?

Why is it that I can't for the life of me get my kids to wake up for school, but on the weekends they're up before the sun??

Sometimes I wonder who the heck these kids are...and I'm convinced that they must've been switched at birth. Then I look at them and see traits of myself and my hubby and it hits me that all those stories our parents told about us really are true, no matter how much we tell them "You must have me confused with my sister/brother! Surely I couldn't have done that!"

Lead by example.

It's been awhile since I've posted a Jonah-ism, but today he spouted out something that I couldn't help but share.

We were walking in the parking lot after it had rained, and I told the boys not to step in the puddles. No sooner had I gotten the words out of my mouth and Jonah was stomping in one. I leaned down and said to him "Do. Not. Step. In. The. Puddles."

Without missing a beat he said "Momma, I was showing Noah what not to do."

Don't say panties!!

My little princess is starting to use the potty! Yesterday I only changed ONE diaper (after naptime) and the rest of the day she went on the toilet like a big girl!! I'm so thrilled- neither one of the boys was potty trained until they were 3. Sophia's not even 2 yet! I know we're just beginning, but I am still excited. So today while we were out running errands, I let her pick out some big girl panties. She picked these cute little things (obviously in a smaller size!).Hubby came home for lunch and I told him that I bought her some panties to wear around the house and he gave me the infamous "Bobby look" (one raised eyebrow) and said "Panties??" I nodded, and asked him what the big deal was. They were only $3.50, so it's not like a dropped a ton of money on them. He just kept looking at me with a quizzical expression. Clearly not following him, I asked again what he was talking about. He looked at me with both eyebrows raised and said "You can't call them panties. Panties are lingerie. My not-yet-two-year-old daughter does NOT wear lingerie. Call them undies or underwear. Don't say panties!!"
After hearing the explaination, I rolled my eyes, threw my hands in the air and walked away trying my hardest not to laugh. I was unsuccessful.

You always remember your first time...

This is my first official blog post! Hooray for me!

I feel like I'm finally settling in here in Charleston. It's been 6 months, but I feel almost 100% at home here. Of course there are things that I still have to get used to (like the ridiculous humidity!), but that will come in time, I am sure.

My life is pretty stressful right now, but that's pretty normal when you're a military wife, and a stay at home mom to three rambunctious children. My beloved husband has three weeks left of his six week training, and it definitely has NOT been an easy road this time for me. I'm just trying to successfully balance all of the hats I wear as a mom, wife, sister, friend, and, sometimes, single parent. But like my mom always says, "This too shall pass." And in the words of my dearly departed grandpa, I must "keep courage". So that's what I'm trying to do.
